For many years, IBEW Local 77 recognized outstanding Shop Stewards through our Shop Steward of the Month program. Shop Stewards are the backbone of our Union: serving as advocates, problem-solvers, communicators, and leaders in workplaces across our jurisdiction.
We are excited to relaunch this program and highlight the exceptional work being done by Stewards throughout Local 77. Nominations can be submitted by any member, Business Representative, officer, or coworker who has witnessed a Steward making a positive impact. We encourage everyone to take a moment to recognize the Stewards who help make our Union stronger every day.
Shop Steward of the Month
September 2026 Shop Steward Spotlight
Derek Schneider
IBEW Local 77 is proud to recognize Derek Schneider of Snohomish County PUD as our Shop Steward of the Month!
Derek is the kind of Steward members know they can count on. He consistently shows up for his coworkers, isn’t afraid to ask the difficult questions, and will stand firmly beside a member when they need someone in their corner.
What makes Derek especially deserving of this recognition is that his commitment to our members doesn’t stop with his own department. Over the years, he has willingly stepped in to help members throughout Snohomish PUD, sharing his time, knowledge, and experience wherever it is needed.
Over more than 15 years, Derek has also helped members through some particularly difficult and sensitive workplace situations. Those moments require more than knowing the contract, they require patience, discretion, compassion, and the ability to advocate firmly while earning a member’s trust. Derek brings all of those qualities to his role as a Steward.
As Business Representative Madeline Kimball shared in her nomination, “He is exactly the type of person you would want standing beside you when dealing with a sensitive or intimidating workplace issue.”
Strong unions are built by members who are willing to show up for one another. Derek exemplifies that kind of leadership and reminds our members that they never have to face a workplace issue alone.
Congratulations, Derek, and thank you for your continued commitment to the members of IBEW Local 77!
